After more than a year of delays, Ghostbusters: Afterlife is finally headed to theaters. The newest movie in the franchise is a direct sequel to Ghostbusters 2, which was released more than 30 years ago. Its director, Jason Reitman, is the son of Ivan Reitman, who directed both of the original Ghostbusters films. Ahead of the movie’s official release on Nov. 19, Polygon had the chance to see the movie during its special surprise screening at New York Comic Con, and we have some spoiler-free thoughts on the ghostly new movie.

Fair warning, the movie’s premise is explained below, along with content from the first trailer. But we aren’t revealing anything else, and certainly none of the movie’s biggest surprises.

Ghostbusters: Afterlife follows Callie (The Leftovers’ Carrie Coon) and her children Trevor (Stranger Things’ Finn Wolfhard), and Phoebe (Mckenna Grace), as they move from their life in the city to a broken-down farmhouse in the middle of nowhere, which Callie’s estranged father owned and died in. As it turns out, her father also happened to be Egon Spengler, the former Ghostbuster originally played by Harold Ramis. The movie overall is a touching tribute to Ramis, the co-writer and co-star of the original films, who passed away in 2014.

Inside the house, Egon left seemingly hundreds of tools, gadgets, and Ghostbusting paraphernalia for Phoebe and Trevor to discover, and for longtime fans to cheer over. These moments of nostalgia are littered all over the place, and the references are mostly harmless fan service — even if it occasionally feels like the camera lingers too long on a prop or two from the original movie. The one real exception is a cloying moment near the end of the movie that sends it hurtling over the nostalgia cliff, and sours the whole experience a bit.

Unlike other recent long-delayed sequels, like Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Afterlife sidesteps the worst nostalgia traps by making children its primary characters. Trevor and Phoebe don’t idolize the Ghostbusters — they’ve barely even heard of them, which leaves the enthusiasm for the fans in the theater, rather forcing it out of the actors on screen.

The most commendable part of Afterlife may be its structure, and how little it looks like the original Ghostbusters, even though the movies’ stories share more than a few similarities. There’s no attempt to form a new Ghostbusting team, or to recapture the magic and chemistry of the original stars. Instead, Reitman focuses on building strong characters — something he excelled at in his previous movies, like Up in the Air and Juno — and bringing them into the world of Ghostbusters. Rather than a work of pure reinvention, Afterlife feels more like an expansion of the universe, and of the limits defining what a Ghostbusters movie can be. This movie says a Ghostbusters story can be about kids finding where they fit into the world, just as much as it can be about Bill Murray flirting with Sigourney Weaver after she’s turned into the herald of a Sumerian god.

Those kids are really the stars of this show. Rather than a witty one-liner comedy like the first two movies, Ghostbusters: Afterlife is more like an Amblin Entertainment movie, full of adolescent adventures and a few jokes along the way. There are sweeping scenes of kids getting into trouble, and discovering first crushes and first friends. Adults like Paul Rudd, playing a science teacher named Gary Gruberson, show up to offer the kids some help, or at least some funny exposition.

The performances by the movie’s young actors are mostly winning, but the two standouts by far are Mckenna Grace’s Phoebe and her first-ever friend, who calls himself Podcast because he hosts one. Podcast is played by newcomer Logan Kim, who is hilarious, charming, and a natural-born scene-stealer. But while Kim provides most of the movie’s best jokes, Grace handles just about everything else. If this movie rests on the shoulders of any one character, it’s Phoebe, who is socially awkward, a little weird, and tremendously smart — exactly what Ghostbusters fans would expect from Egon’s granddaughter.

Grace is outstanding in the role, and she echoes Ramis without ever imitating him, making the character uniquely her own. She even has to match up with Carrie Coon in the movie’s most dramatic scenes and Rudd in its most comedic, and she’s excellent at each. Grace has already been great in a few movies — including playing the younger version of half the blonde actresses in Hollywood over the last few years — but in Ghostbusters: Afterlife, she may have finally found her star-making role.

Even with its emphasis on its new young characters, Ghostbusters: Afterlife is still stuffed with references, inside jokes, and reverence for the original movies in the series. There are dozens of tiny moments that will make die-hard Ghostbusters fans cheer — and they certainly cheered at Comic Con. But the most exciting thing about the movie is how it looks to welcome a new generation of kids into the Ghostbusters world, both onscreen and off. With Afterlife’s endless string of callbacks, Jason Reitman lovingly pays homage to his father’s series, but the new characters are where Jason’s own intimate and personal style of filmmaking shines through. Because of that, it seems fitting that Ghostbusters: Afterlife is at its best when it’s about young characters finding their place in a pop-culture landscape their predecessors built.

Santo Domingo. Among the tax reforms that the administration of President Luis Abinader has proposed, there is, as it has transpired, a possible modification to Law 108.10 to promote the film industry, legislation that has made possible the development of the industry and the arrival in the country of millionaire international film productions.

According to a report delivered to Free Diary, by the press office of the Directorate General of Cinema (Dgcine), between January 1 and August 10, fifty film projects were shot in the country.

The total of the budgets approved for the filming of feature films, short films, television commercials, documentaries or animation, under article 34 of incentive to local cinema established in Law 108-10, amounts to more than one billion pesos, from of 17 films that made use of the aforementioned article, while the reality show Dominicana’s Got Talent acquired article 39, an incentive to foreign investment for the realization of its second season. Eight projects rolled did not apply to the legislation.

While article 39, which encourages foreign investment in the country through cinema, attracted seven productions that took advantage of the benefits, the rest did not apply, but the approved budget was RD $ 11, 094, 270,754. 25. (more than eleven billion pesos)

Filmmakers and producers have raised their opposition to modifications to legislation that has had a great impact on the industry, however, some are cautious, while others warn that equalizing the incentives of articles 34 and 39 would be to decree the death of cinema .

Adocine

The president of the Dominican Association of Film Industry Professionals (Adocine), Ivan Reynoso, he abstained from referring to the statement because he understands that it is an unofficial document.

“Everyone is concerned, dismayed and obviously they are studying to see what the next steps are. You have to wait until you know what the government’s intention is. I do not think it is wise to set a position without having an official approach. We have seen the position of the president regarding the cinema, and everything he has indicated so far is in favor of maintaining the Law, ”commented the president of Adocine.

The experienced film producer agrees with what was raised by other of his colleagues, who have said that, if the legislation is contributing, it should not be touched.

“There is no need to modify it. It is a very young law, we have very strong competition in all of Central America and the Caribbean as a destination for filming with Article 39, but what happens, there is no 39 if not there is a team that supports it, but there will be no work team without it Article 34. There is no way that one can exist without the other, because right now you have about 7 thousand people who work directly in the industry, not including the number of companies that have been formalized to provide service to the industry, but that must be added to the number of people who work indirectly with the industry ”, he reflected.

Among others, Iván Reynoso has served as a producer of national and international films. Know how the business is in the back of your hands and how it affects, for example, the communities where a movie is filmed.

“The closest thing to the construction business is the cinema when it comes to the distribution of money in all areas of our economy. Tell me which company will spend 20 million pesos on a local movie in a town? Happened to me with Gourme TuberI remember that the population of Monte Plata felt our presence due to the dynamization of the economy. It is the only one that really distributes the money, “he said.

He recalled that he was a local producer of the film Arthur the King starring Mark Wahlberg and filmed in Las Terrenas and also in the Colonial City. “That movie opened five hotels that were closed, that town was dead because we filmed in the middle of a pandemic, with a curfew. That is what we have to understand, now well for productions to come we have to have the work team because it is not efficient to bring staff from abroad and that is only achieved when we have a staff delivered with Article 34 “, said the president of Adocine

The filmmaker and consul in Los Angeles, Alfonso Rodriguez, It was spoken in terms similar to those raised by Reynoso. He recalled that so far they are only rumors and that he has made it known to colleagues who have contacted him by phone.

“I have told everyone who has called me to wait and see what they are going to propose because right now we do not know anything, although there is a project for a tax reform that will obviously touch all economic sectors of Dominican life and I imagine that the cinema I imagine that it will be one of them, but we have to wait to see where they are going to put the mingo to see if one is going to continue playing with the black ball or the white ball ”, commented Alfonso Rodríguez.

By referring to the document in which the possible changes are established. “I read that document and it doesn’t make any sense what it says that they are going to match 34 with 39 that doesn’t make any sense. “I have told the filmmakers who have called me to be calm, that the numbers of the Film Law are very clear, we have created 7,000-odd jobs in ten years, 40,000-odd people benefit from cinema, Lawyers and peoples also benefit. What the government stops receiving from Dominican cinema is paid for by foreign cinema, because it is a law that it designed that way. The local cinema in what it does that they keep the industry alive so that when a Sandra Bullock and a Jennifer Lopez arrive in the country, the technicians have work and continue to have work. If there is no article 34, there are no 39, if there are no Dominican films, he will not see foreign films. That is understood by everyone and the one who understands it the most is the Minister of Finance, Jochy Vicente, who is a film producer with more than 10 films, ”revealed Alfonso Rodríguez in an interview with program 12 and 2 hosted by Karina Larrari and Sergio Carlo for the 91 fm ”, he commented.

Alfonso Rodríguez revealed that the Minister of Finance knows the film industry very well and that on more than one occasion he has worked with him on some of the films of businessman José Miguel Bonetti.

Hans García, filmmaker and former president of the Dominican Association of Film Industry Professionals (Adocine) also set his position.

“Equating the conditions of article 34 with article 39 would be the sudden death of the Dominican film industry, because it is impossible to make a film with those conditions, much less compete with the advantage of tax credits generated by foreign productions. You know that the tax credits that these productions (foreign ones) are not sold at 25%, but cheaper with benefits for the entrepreneurs who buy them, if we are going to compete with article 39 under those conditions ”, revealed Hans García .

By defending the legislation to promote the film industry in the country, he assured that they are the most organized sector.

“In our country there is no industry sector more regulated and formalized than ours. Everyone who works under the protection of Law 108-10 rigorously pays their taxes, otherwise they will not work. All the companies created to offer services to the industry comply with their obligations with the DGII as well as the employees they hire ”, emphasized Hans García.

We trust that President Luis Abinader will turn a deaf ear to those voices that have been raised, through their proposals, to destroy the Film Law. We believe and trust that, as he told us, his government has every interest in making this industry grow and that it is now that the golden years of Dominican cinema arrive, ”he added.

The former president of the Dominican Association of Film Professionals (Adocine) explained that since the creation of cinema as an industry in the country and until the momentum that the Film Law has given, barely one or two films were shot a year. Since the creation of Law 108-10, an industry has flourished that allows around 30 Dominican films to be shot every year, which produces thousands of jobs for professionals and specialized technicians.

The film professional took the opportunity to make a call to the President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, and remind him of the words and commitment assumed with the film industry on June 9, 2020.

“We are more than convinced that the order will not come from your government to destroy a growing industry such as the Dominican Film Industry. We trust his word in which he established that maintaining tax incentives was not in dispute and that the golden age of Dominican cinema would come with his government, ”he argued.

Omar de la cruz, director of the Global Film Festival is opposed to a modification of the Hundred Law, but in case that occurs, he considered the following.

“If they are going to make any changes, an acceptable proposal would be to increase article 39 from 25% to 30% or 40% (tax credit) to generate more attractiveness for foreign investment. Regarding article 34, the credit will make it transferable like 39 and leave it the same to continue promoting the local industry, as well as setting a spending cap of 3,500,000,000 for the film industry. In addition, establish that local investors of 25% who can invest in the film industry must first invest a minimum of 50% (25%) in article 34 and after complying with that quota, the remainder in article 39 ” De la Cruz advised.

“Equating the conditions of article 34 with article 39 would be the sudden death of the Dominican film industry, because it is impossible to make a film with those conditions”

The fiction based on the saga of novels by Robert Jordan opens on the platform in November 2021.

San Diego Comic Con 2021 has been the event chosen to show the first image of The Wheel of Time, Amazon Prime Video’s epic fantasy series, inspired by the well-known saga of homonymous novels Robert Jordan. During his intervention in the panel dedicated to the platform, the showrunner and executive producer, Rafe Judkins, has unveiled the official poster of the fiction, in which Rosamund Pike can be seen as Moiraine.

The choice of Pike as the absolute protagonist of the promotional image is not accidental. And, as Judkins himself has confirmed, the story of the first season will revolve around Moiraine, a powerful magician belonging to the group of women known as the Aes Sedai, unlike the novel The eye of the world, in which the plot is told from the point of view of Rand al’Thor. If the series is faithful to the books, Moiraine will have it in her power to save the world from destruction. To do this, you must find the mighty Dragon Reborn. But her plans do not go as planned and she is involved in a series of battles in which humans face dangerous creatures.

Judkins also spoke of that respect for the original story told by Jordan in his novels during his speech at the Comic-Con @ Home 2021, and has admitted that his intention is to get as close as possible to those stories that conquered him years ago, but giving it his personal touch.

Obviously, I want to be as close to the books as possible. They are very beloved books, I adore them, and there is a great story in them that we want to tell, and we want to tell it in the best possible way for television. At the same time, this is a real adaptation of the saga, so there will be many different things to the books, but I think it stays true to the heart of the novels and the central axis of the narrative

Amazon Prime Video

The importance of balance

Judging by his words, Judkins seems to be very satisfied with the result of this long-awaited adaptation, and he is proud to have been in charge of this story in which Jordan has managed to distinguish himself from other literary sagas such as The Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones. , by addressing “balance as something significant in the world.”

It’s really groundbreaking to see a fantasy series that is not so much good versus evil, but balance versus imbalance. This is a message worth writing about right now

As you can read in the poster unveiled during San Diego Comic Con, The Wheel of Time will arrive on Amazon Prime Video in November of this 2021. There are still more than four months to see the results of the creation of Rafe Judkins on the platform, but the company is so confident of its success that it has already renewed for a second season. This suggests that if all goes according to plan, the fiction could drag on for years, thanks to the 14 volumes, and its prequel, into which the literary saga is divided started in 1990. So much so that its creator has in mind no more and no less than eight seasons.

Despite this, the showrunner prefers to be cautious, and acknowledges that although his “danger will never be to run out of books“, the real” challenge “they face is how to” tell this story in the most coherent and cohesive way “in a “reasonable” number of episodes. All this with an eye on the millions of fans who have read the novels, who he is sure they will not disappoint. “I think it is important to always find that balance around you, I always want to hire people who challenge me“.

MADRID, 9 Jun. (CulturaOcio) –

Sometimes the public decides see a movie for the sensations conveyed by the poster. This marketing element is just as important as any other, and therefore, studies take care of them down to the smallest detail. Well, or so they did until now, since Marvel and Paramount seem not to have put much effort into the posters of Spider-Man: Homecoming and Transformers: The Last Knight.

The criticisms have not been long in coming and the social networks have been filled with negative comments towards the posters of the two movies. It was to be expected that two of the most anticipated projects of the summer would have a promotion within the budget of the tapes.

Both posters are quite similar and have the same structure. The main characters in the background in a large size, while the rest of the cast and protagonists, in the case of Transforms, at the bottom to a smaller size and cropped so you could be a design beginner.

The posters of Spider-Man: Homecoming and Transformers: The Last Knight they might as well go through the seedy version of the movies. That made by independent distributors with a much smaller budget and with unfamiliar faces.

It is surprising that the studios have selected these posters as definitive to promote the films, since even lThe ones made by the fans have a better quality and design. Furthermore, it is even more surprising when previous posters that both Marvel and Paramount have released, were up to par of two of the blockbuster wannabes of the summer as they are Spider-Man: Homecoming and Transformers: The Last Knight.

THE MOST EXPECTED OF THE SUMMER

Spider-Man: Homecoming will hit theaters on July 28. It will star the young man Tom Holland, who will put himself in the skin of the neighbor and friend from all over New York, Spiderman. The cast also has another well-known face in the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) as Robert Downey Jr. that he will once again don the Iron Man suit.

The new characters will be played by, the Oscar nominee, Michael Keaton, who will be the villain of the film (the Vulture); Marisa Tomei will give life to Aunt May, Laura Harrier as Liz Allan, Tony Revolori in the role of Flash Thompson and zendaya, that gives life to Michelle, the possible love of Peter Parker.

While, Tranformers 5: The Last Knight will be the end of Michael Bay as director of the main saga, since he himself has admitted that he would love to direct one of the spin-offs Paramount has in store.

Mark Wahlberg to star as Cade Yeager again, along with the veteran will be the new signings such as Isabela Moner, which will give life to Izabella; Gemma Chan, who will play Quintessa; Jerrod Carmichel, that will put itself in the skin of Desi; and the great sir Anthony Hopkins, like Sir Edmund Burton.

Familiar faces such as Laura Haddock (Vivian Wembley), Josh Duhamel that this fifth installment returns as William Lennox; John Goodman, like Hound; Stanley Tucci, who will continue as Joshua Joyce; and John Turturro, who will continue as Agent Simmons.

The film, also with Jodie Comer as a co-star, features appearances (physical and via voice) by some well-known performers.

BEWARE, ‘SPOILERS’! The following news contains ‘spoilers’ of Free Guy.

Free GuyThe new Ryan Reynolds was one of the movies of the summer. The film, directed by Shawn Levy and with Jodie Comer as a co-star, swept theaters and now comes to Disney + to continue gaining followers. The story follows Guy, a man with a seemingly normal and somewhat boring life who discovers that his world is not what it seems. Actually, Guy is a non-playable character from a video game and when he meets Molotov Girl and he learns that his universe is going to be destroyed, he will do everything possible to save it.

The film has very funny moments and also with the occasional nod to films from the Marvel Cinematic Universe and Star Wars. To that must be added the cameos by six well-known Hollywood actors. Reynolds himself thanked them for their participation through a publication on his Instagram account.

“This movie is about friendship. And friendship is, at its simplest, showing up. Even though I don’t have photos of everyone, here are the amazing friends that appeared in this movie.”. And who appears in the images? Chris Evans, Dwayne Johnson, John Krasinski, Channing Tatum, and Hugh Jackman. In those photographs Tina Fey is missing, but we are going to tell you when they appear -or you can listen to all of them- in Free Guy.

Chris Evans

The actor from the Marvel Cinematic Universe appears in the film for a few seconds. It happens when Guy uses the captain america shield, a character that Evans has played in the franchise of Marvel Studios for a decade, to avoid a hit of Dude. The latter is a bigger and more muscular version of Guy than the villain. Antwan (Taika Waititi) introduces in the video game to prevent the protagonist from fulfilling his objective.

The moment is being broadcast live and Evans appears just after the shield is seen and the sound of the theme of Avengers. The actor is watching the fight on his mobile in a cafeteria and expresses surprise at witnessing the moment.

The story behind this cameo is curious. Evans was in Boston, Massachusetts (United States), place of production of Free Guy, shooting the series of Apple TV+ Defend Jacob. Reynolds, taking advantage of the fact that they were in the same place, decided to ask him if it would be possible for him to appear in the film. As the Levy has revealed, Evans spent about five minutes on set from Free Guy to record your cameo.

“Chris, being the cool guy that he seems to be, and in fact is, said yes. He literally drove to our set, had the camera ready, we shot it in five minutes, and he left,” Levy said in CinemaBlend. “He didn’t even ask what it was”recalls Reynolds. “I could have said it was the most graphic nude scene you would ever do. But he didn’t even ask. […] He didn’t ask us for anything, “he adds.

Channing Tatum

The Magic Mike performer has the most screen time. Tatum plays the avatar of one of the players. With him the film begins to show what the world of Free City, the city of graphic adventure that gives its name to the video game, and also interacts with Guy at one point in the film.

Hugh Jackman

Reynolds and Jackman worked together on X-Men Origins: Wolverine, a film in which Reynolds first played Deadpool, although in a version of the character that fans of the Mercenary Bocazas did not like at all. Jackman does not physically appear in Free Guy, but can be heard at the beginning of the film when Molotov Girl, the avatar of Millie (Eating), talk to a masked character in an alley to get some blueprints. His voice is Jackman’s.

Dwayne Johnson

Another actor who appears in the film through voice is Johnson. You can listen to the interpreter of Jungle Cruise in one of the robberies of the bank where Guy works. Johnson lends his voice to one of the robbers.

John Krasinski

Like Johnson and Jackman, Krasinsi lends her voice to the film. On this occasion, you can listen to the actor and director of A peaceful place when a anonymous person (only its silhouette is visible) talking about his experience playing Free City.

Tina Fey

Tina Fey appears on the screen for a few seconds, but her cameo corresponds to one of the funniest moments in the film. The actress of Bad Girls gives life to Keith’s mother, the player whose avatar in the video game plays Tatum. You can see it in the background vacuuming and teasing your child during an interaction between her avatar and Guy.

The location of one of the first scenes filmed for The New Mutants at Medfield State Hospital was also the site of at least one tragic death due to the history of the institution.

During a press conference of The New Mutants, the cast and crew described how filming at Medfield State Hospital was often creepy and bizarre, with some unwilling to walk to their cars alone at night. Anya Taylor-Joy, who plays Illyana Rasputin / Magik in the film, compared the production to a high school / college experience because the cast would go back to the “same place every day and then [iba] to, like, the bedrooms. “

Following Taylor-Joy’s observation, director Josh Boone pointed out a real-life tragedy that had occurred at one of the filming locations. “It was like a college experience,” Boone explained, “but at the location on the set where you were, someone had hanged himself there maybe 40 years before … I remember in the attic where we filmed the first day, it was a place where someone had hanged himself. They said it could even have been more than one person. Because the place where we shot he was 150 years old. “

The revised synopsis of The New Mutants is below.

In this terrifying action movie based on the MARVEL comic series, five young men who prove they have special powers are taken to a secret institution to undergo treatments that are said to cure them of the dangers of their powers. Among them are Danielle Moonstar aka Mirage (Blu Hunt), who creates illusions out of other people’s fears; Rahne Sinclair (Maisie Williams), who transforms into the werewolf Wolfsbane; Sam Guthrie (Charlie Heaton), who, as a Cannonball, can fly at jet speeds protected by a force field; Roberto da Costa alias Mancha Solar (Henry Zaga), which absorbs and channels solar energy; and Illyana Rasputin aka Magik (Anya Taylor-Joy). Colossus’ younger sister Magik wraps herself in armor at will and wields a soul sword that amplifies her multiple superhuman and psychic abilities. Invited by Dr. Cecilia Reyes (Alice Braga) to share their stories about when their powers were first manifested, the five “patients” come to understand that they belong to a class of people called mutants, who have historically been marginalized and feared. . As they relive their origin stories, their memories seem to turn into terrifying realities. They soon question what is real and what is not, and it is clear that the institution is not what it seems. Now the question is: why are they captive? And who is trying to destroy them? Tension and horror mount on this thrilling journey directed by Josh Boone and co-written by Boone and Knate Lee.

Directed and co-written by Josh Boone, The New Mutants stars Maisie Williams as Rahne Sinclair / Wolfsbane, Anya Taylor-Joy as Illyana Rasputin / Magik, Charlie Heaton as Sam Guthrie / Cannonball, Henry Zaga as Roberto da Costa / Sunspot, Blu Hunt as Danielle Moonstar / Mirage and Alice Braga as Dr. Cecilia Reyes. The film hits theaters on August 28.

Seven-year-old Aubrey Romero had surgery to remove a malignant dentinogenic ghost cell tumor. Her classmates raised $3,175 by the end of school on Friday.

BRADENTON, Fla. — Teachers and students at Sea Breeze Elementary School in Bradenton put on purple clothes and accessories for a special day.

They are raising money to help a schoolmate who is battling a rare form of cancer.

“I am at the doctor’s, they’re wearing purple day today, it’s purple day Friday,” said Aubrey Romero via FaceTime. Aubrey was at a doctor’s office in Miami with her mom awaiting a scan.

The 7-year-old has had a rare cancerous ghost cell tumor weigh down on her big smile.

Scientifically known as a malignant dentinogenic ghost cell tumor, it started out as what Aubrey’s parents thought was a tooth infection.

After several trips to the dentist and antibiotic treatments, her case was referred to a specialist who discovered how grave the situation was.

“Her face was swelling up, it went into her optical nerve and they were able to operate on the ghost cell tumor. It was a long long ordeal and they had to reconstruct her face after that,” said Aubrey’s teacher, Lori Schumaker.

Schumaker said doctors had to remove Aubrey’s gums, parts of her teeth and lip to get the tumor out. However, several more scans that followed showed cancer cells near the little girl’s brain and skull. Now, Aubrey faces months of radiation and possibly chemotherapy, according to Schumaker.

The new development has spurred her school friends into action with Aubrey Day. It’s a day they set out to honor their friend and help raise funds for piling medical bills, all dressed in purple.

“Why are we dressing purple because we are supporting Aubrey,” said Elizabeth, a classmate.

“It is Aubrey’s favorite color,” said Crimson, one of Aubrey’s friends. She said Aubrey made pink beaded bracelets for her while in the hospital.

Schumaker kicked off the fundraiser, which has been largely driven by students in her second-grade class and the school at large. The children are sharing Aubrey’s story with their families and at places like church.

The students made posters and donated $1 or more to support Aubrey. One girl said she raised $10 at home.

Donations are also coming from parents and the community. By the close of school on Friday, the students had raised $3,175. Some of the students told 10 Tampa Bay they wanted to raise $30,000 because they know Aubrey’s mom can’t go to work because she has to stay at the hospital.

“The kids feel involved, the kids have felt like they’ve had a place in this and they’ve been involved,” Schumaker said.

The students also had messages they wanted to share with Aubrey. The entire third-grade class wrote notes on strips of cards and stapled them into a paper chain. The messages ranged from words of encouragement to messages of hope to simple thoughts and prayers.

“How much we miss her and how much we love her,” Geriam said.

“We’ve been writing notes to her and one thing that and one thing that’s really special to us is that she’s in our hearts and that we pray for her,” Crimson added.

“We just wish will come back soon we’re missing her so much,” William said.

Aubrey, too, can’t wait to reunite with her friends and get back to normal activities she loves like reading and recess.

“I miss you. Thank you for wearing purple and I love you Ms. Schumaker,” Aubrey said.

“I love you, too, Aubrey,” responded Schumaker, fighting back tears.
